Vacation in Bay City, a small coastal town on Tillamook Bay's shores. Set amid beautiful scenery on an inlet of the Pacific Ocean, it is a place that beckons to be explored. Learn about Native American and pioneer history on a hike through a nature reserve and go on a rail-riding trip along the water.
Take advantage of the attractive waterside location with a stroll along the Kilchis Point Interpretative Trails at Kilchis Point Reserve. This attractive green expanse encompasses approximately 200 acres (80 hectares) and was once home of one of the largest Native American settlements on the northern coast of Oregon. This is also where Oregon's first pioneer settled in 1851. Pick up insights into the area's rich history from information panels along the reserve's three interpretive trail routes.
Experience more of Bay City's beautiful scenery on a rail-riding excursion. Pedal specially adapted four-seater bikes along a 10-mile (16-kilometer) round-trip route on old railway lines. You’ll pass rivers, bays and farms. A second route parallels the Nehalem River.
Further outdoor adventures await in three state parks less than a 1-hour drive from Bay City. Walk along the sandy shoreline of Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site and observe the nesting seabirds on the 235-feet (71-meter) basalt sea stack. Hike to the seasonal waterfall and sandstone caves of Hug Point State Recreation Site and kayak at Nehalem Bay State Park.
Back in town, check the schedule at the Bay City Arts Center, a cultural hub that hosts art classes, concerts and theatrical performances. Relax at the tennis and basketball courts, children's playground and skatepark of Al Griffin Memorial Park. Play 18 holes at the Alderbrook Golf Course in nearby Tillamook.
