Hermits' Hideaway - A rustic, off grid cabin in the woods

The Hermits’ Hideaway is a rustic cabin hidden away in the hills just north of Levin. Self contained & off grid, this is the perfect place to get away from the hustle & bustle of daily life.
There is nothing to do here but relax, kick back & de-stress.
Enjoy waking up to the sound of the birds & the wind in the trees. Have a glass of wine on the deck while watching the sun set & then get cosy by the fire while watching a movie.
The cabin has gas hot water, a view from the shower, a king size bed & a long drop toilet.
Access is via a 2.5km dirt track, so you will need a 4WD or vehicle with good ground clearance, then there is a steep 5 minute walk up through the trees. We will meet you at the bottom of the driveway to guide you to the cabin.
The cabin sleeps two & is not suitable for children. As it is off grid it is also not suitable for hair dryers, curling irons or heaters. Sheets are provided but please bring your own towels.
If you would like to bring your dog, please enquire.
There is also a gallery on site, showcasing a range of quality hand crafted items that is open by appointment.

Exactly what we were seeking!
My partner and I wanted to put everything down for a weekend and find a place to just relax. We couldn't have chosen better. The cabin is stunningly built, far more 'bespoke' than 'rustic'; our hosts Paula and John were beyond friendly; the view was astounding. I found so much peace here I spent most of my time sleeping. Perfect.

Superb Hideaway
Paula and John (and Z, their dog) were exemplary hosts. The cottage was much lovelier than described and came with spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. It had very comfortable and had everything you'd need for a cozy weekend away from civilization. Although, if you need to get anything from town it was a quick 15min trip! A tour of Paula and John's house was amazing, like something out of Grand Designs. Paula also had a studio on site and I picked up some fabulous gifts!

Lovely Stay Among The Trees
We had a great time staying at this cabin in the hills, it was a beautifully crafted home with a serene atmosphere and stunning views across the central north island. Paula and John were friendly and attentive hosts and made us feel very comfortable there, only downside was that we couldn't stay longer!

Loved it!
We had a wonderful couple of days in at his lovely spot. The photos didn’t do it justice, the view and sunset were fantastic. I enjoyed the drive up through the bush and although only 20 mins from town it felt like a real getaway. If you like the bush but also a hot shower and cabin luxury then this will tick your boxes. We will be back for sure. The hosts were super welcoming and it was awesome to see Paula’s studio with pottery and handmade jewellery, so make sure you bring some cash to buy some gifts.
